Update travel info on Southern Namibia
Update information about the Namibia area we traveled in 1996. Since then a lot has changed as Ursula from Keetmanshoop e-mailed us in June 2001.
“…Keetmanshoop and the South of Namibia has developed a lot. In such an extend that Keetmanshoop has now even a flying school. We at the flying school was advertising for an instructor and got a lot of interest from over the seas.
All of them want to know how big is Keetmanshoop and what is the living cost and standards. Thats when we got on the internet and search for some web sites we could give them to get a picture of Keetmanshoop and surrounding. And then I discover your web page.
Your description is really good and I must admire you for cycling under these conditions, but I felt that I must let you know that the South of Namibia has developed a lot.
For example, Keetmanshoop don’t really have only two shops we have a swimming pool and a caravan camping sight. From 1996 we got an new hotel with a lot of lodges and bed and breakfast facilities in Keetmanshoop and in 10km radius.
At Naute Dam where you had no facilities there is now toilettes, camping places, fire places and a little cafe at the Dam wall itself. At Seeheim the little hotel is now in full production with rooms a bar and a swimming pool and you can even get something from the menu.
Along the Fish River itself has many Lodges and camping place popped up.
At Goageb the little hotel there is also now open to rent a room and get something from the bar or menu and they also have now a little shop there with a fuel station. And then you will not believe how many lodges, camping places and B/B had popped up this last year or three between Bethanie, Helmeringhausen, Duwisib Castle, Maltahohe, Sesriem and Solitaire.
So the South of Namibia is no longer that bad for cyclists like you. But your page is really describing Namibia…”
